With ongoing protests and unrest which began as a response to the killing of an African American man by Police in Minneapolis, before spreading internationally in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement, our special features this month include a conversation about racism and cities with Mabel O. Wilson (architect, scholar and Associate Director of the Institute for Research in African American Studies at Columbia University), Akira Drake Rodriguez (Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design and School of Social Policy & Practice) and Bryan Lee (Design Principal of Colloqate and a national Design Justice Advocate). We also take a look at the research project 'Map the Gap' which explores the link between design and social justice in the built environment and investigates socioeconomic, spatial, and political inequities across four categories in several U.S. cities that have been impacted by recent police shootings. We also look at a new visionary model for the development of off-grid, integrated and resilient eco-villages that can power and feed self-reliant families around the world plus a new set of strategic principles that promote a sustainable approach to healthy urban living...and much more. We hope you enjoy it!
